Shola Forests From Above

Shola Forests  from outside look beautiful. Such 
patches of forests are confined to valleys only.
Interspersed with grasslands on top of the mountains.
A diverse assemblage of endangered large mammals 
is found in such shola valleys  supporting three 
large mammal predator species TigerLeopard and 
Wild Dogs. The important Tiger prey base found within

Kudremukh National Park is replete with Shola Forests
which are found in the valleys deep inside gorges.
Along the streams high rise trees with heavily buttressing 
is the charasterist features of such velvet looking forests 
from above.

Kudremukh National Park

Kudremukh is a mountain in Chikmagalur district, in KarnatakaIndia. The name literally means 'horse-face' and refers to one picturesque view of a side of the mountain.Kudremukh National Park consists of Mookambika Wild Life Sanctuary & Someshwara Wild Life Sanctuary a vast expense of 1200 Sq Km area spreading in Chikmagalur, Udupi, Shimoga & Mangalore Districts of South Karnataka.. In the heart of the Kudremukh Natioanal Park there is town named Kudremukh which is primarily an iron ore mining town where the government run Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) which is now closed due to aesthetic and conservation purposes. The place is noted for its scenic beauty, located in midst of mountains. Owning to the dense forests, sighting wildlife can be challenging, though the area is rich in wildlife. Nonetheless the drive through the forest ranges can be enchanting and exhilarating. Three important rivers, the Tunga, the Bhadra and the Nethravathi are said to have their origin here. A shrine of goddess Bhagavathi and a Varaha image, 1.8 m within a cave are the main attractions.The Tunga river and Bhadra river flow freely through the parklands. Kadambi waterfalls area definite point of interest for anyone who travels to the spot.The animals found there include the malabar civetwild dogssloth bear and spotted deer.
